Welcome to the world of portraiture oil painting! Here you will learn a craft that has been around for centuries. These 5 day workshops, held 2-3 times per year, are intensive yet suited for all levels of experience from beginner to advanced. Focusing on copying portraits from the Old Masters, starting first with an exact rendering in charcoal, then in Verdaccio (an underpainting in the full range of green-grays) and finally moving onto transparent colored glazes and flesh paint. During this process, you will learn valuable skills such as how to see with an artist’s eye, why you do what you do(how many of us have had closets full of unfinished paintings from typical art classes….unfinished and without the skills and knowledge to do so? I have!), and the science and math of art and composition. Combined, these methods prepare students for creating and executing their own original works of art.
